Some Useful Battery Information
Please read this before using your new battery!
Cordless phone batteries, Cell phones, PDAs, Power Tool Batteries, and all devices with the chemistries below
These types of batteries can be NIMH, NiCad, or Lithium Ion all these three chemistries have similar properties when looking after them.
Initial charge- all three types of batteries should be fully charged overnight on receipt.
Charges 2-6- it is very important to fully charge the battery and then use the battery until the device says low battery. There is no need to force a discharge just use the device as normal until the battery runs down to about 20% of its charge. The important thing about these 2-6 conditioning cycles is that you do not top up the battery until it reaches about 20% of its charge. Do not let the battery run flat, especially on the first 3-4 cycles.
After conditioning- the best course of action to lengthen the life of these types of batteries is to only replace the device on the charger when the device needs charging. All three chemistries of batteries can be cycled around 500 times if the device was placed on the charger once every day after one use the battery would last approx 500 days if placed on the charger twice a day after use the battery would last approx 250 days. A battery does not half cycle so even if the battery was 80% charged a full cycle will be used when it is placed on charge.
SLA Batteries
This type of chemistry does not need conditioning the battery can be cycled around 300-400 times, although the battery is best used heavily at the top end of its charge. This battery should be topped up and not used till flat.
The average life of an SLA battery is 2-3 years depending on use and care.
Laptop Batteries
Most laptop batteries today use Lithium Ion Technology. The recommended care is slightly different from that above.
Initial charge- The battery should be fully charged overnight on receipt.
Charges 2-6- it is very important to fully charge the battery and then use the battery until the device is discharged to only about 20% of its charge. Do not let the battery drain down completely or the charging circuit in the laptop may not detect a good battery. This is especially important in the first 5 cycles. There is no need to force a discharge just use the device as normal until the battery runs down. The important thing about these 2-6 conditioning cycles is that you do not top up the battery until it reaches 20% of its charge.
After conditioning- the best course of action to lengthen the life of these types of batteries is more difficult to ascertain the main problem is that if you are constantly plugging in and out of the mains adaptor the battery life will be reduced significantly. .The best thing to do is to make sure that you fully cycle the battery and let it run low at least once a month. Lithium batteries need to be exercised to maintain their usability.

Important Safety Warning for 18650 Li-Ion Batteries:Li-Ion batteries, including the Panasonic NCR18650B and the Cameron Sino Range, require correct charging and discharging practices to ensure safety. Improper use can lead to risks, including explosion. It is vital that users understand the proper handling, charging, and discharging of these batteries before creating battery packs. We are not liable for damages resulting from misuse. Before using this battery, ensure it is compatible with your device. Research is essential as no guarantees of compatibility are provided. Remember that individual Li-Ion cells are UN38.3 certified for transport. Modifying the cell by more than 20% or adding extra cells voids this certification, prohibiting their use on aircraft, either as carry-on or cargo. Handling these unprotected Li-Ion batteries demands caution due to their sensitivity to charging irregularities. Mishandling can cause them to burn or explode, posing risks to personal safety and property. Charge these batteries on a fireproof surface and never leave them unattended while charging. Use only a smart charger specifically designed for this type of Li-Ion battery. Avoid mixing old and new, or used and unused batteries. Proper disposal of Li-Ion batteries is crucial when they are no longer needed. Do not dispose of them in fire. Disposal regulations vary by country, state, and local governments. Please consult your local authorities for proper disposal methods. Many retail stores also offer free recycling of rechargeable batteries. We are not responsible for any damage resulting from the modification of batteries or chargers in any form. This includes, but is not limited to, making battery packs. Our responsibility does not extend to damage caused by misuse or mishandling of Li-Ion batteries and chargers. Please make sure that the correct cell has been ordered for your application. |
